A Guide to Creating Your First WordPress Blog Post
Blogging helps your WooShop store show up in search results and keeps your customers engaged. It is the most effective way to share shop updates, "how-to" guides, or industry news without cluttering your main sales pages.
Steps to create your first post
- Log in to your dashboard: Open your WooShop admin area and click on Posts in the left-hand menu, then select Add New.
- Add a title: Click where it says "Add title." Keep it descriptive so both customers and search engines know exactly what the post is about.
- Write your content: Click into the main body area to start typing. WordPress uses "blocks" for different types of content. To add something other than text—like a heading or an image—click the (+) icon and select the block you need.
- Set a Featured Image: In the sidebar on the right, look for the Featured Image section. Upload a high-quality photo that represents your post. This thumbnail appears on your main blog page and when you share the post on social media.
- Choose a Category: Use the Categories section in the right sidebar to organize your post. For example, if you’re writing about a new product, you might check a category called "Product News."
- Preview and Publish: Click Preview in the top right corner to see how the post looks on your site. If everything is correct, click Publish.
Practical examples
- For Shop Owners: Write a "Behind the Scenes" post showing how you package orders. This builds trust with new customers.
- For Service Providers: Create a "Top 5 Tips" post related to your industry. If you sell coffee beans, write about the best way to grind them for a French press.
- For Announcements: Use a blog post to detail a holiday sale or a change in your shipping policy.
Troubleshooting common issues
- The "Publish" button is missing: You might be in a restricted user role, or you are currently editing a post that is already scheduled. Ensure you are logged in as an Administrator or Editor.
- Images are too large: If your page loads slowly after adding images, try resizing them before uploading. Aim for a width of 1200px for featured images.
- Layout looks off: Since WooShop uses the Kadence theme, you can adjust the sidebar or content width for individual posts using the Kadence Page Settings icon (the small blue "K") in the top right corner of the editor.
- Formatting is messy: If you copied text from Word or Google Docs, it might bring over "hidden" styling. Use the Clear Formatting tool or paste as plain text (Ctrl+Shift+V) to keep things clean.
Summary
Sharing regular updates helps your store stay relevant and easy to find. Once your post is live, you can share the link directly in your email newsletter or on your social media profiles to drive traffic back to your shop.
