How to track your top performing keywords
Knowing which search terms lead customers to your store helps you focus your marketing efforts. When you know exactly what people type into Google to find your products, you can make better decisions about your product descriptions, categories, and blog posts.
How to see your top keywords
WooShop uses integrated SEO tools to pull data directly from Google into your dashboard. Follow these steps to see your current rankings:
- Log in to your WooShop Admin.
- In the left-hand menu, go to Rank Math > Analytics.
- Click on the Keywords tab at the top of the page.
- You will see a list of terms. You can sort this list by:
- Clicks: How many people actually visited your store after searching.
- Impressions: How many times your store appeared in search results.
- Position: Where you rank on the Google results page (e.g., Position 1 is the very top).
Putting this data into practice
Seeing the numbers is the first step; using them to grow your sales is the second. Here are a few ways to use this information:
- The "Near Miss" Strategy: Look for keywords where your position is between 11 and 20. This means you are on the second page of Google. By adding more detail or a better image to that specific product page, you might push it to the first page and significantly increase your traffic.
- Inventory Planning: If a boutique owner notices a spike in searches for "linen summer dresses" but mostly stocks silk, they can adjust their next wholesale order to match what customers are already looking for.
- Content Ideas: If a restaurant owner sees people finding their site via the keyword "best gluten-free pasta," they might decide to write a short blog post about their gluten-free preparation process to build more trust.
Troubleshooting common issues
The data looks empty or says "No Data Found"
If you recently launched your store, Google may not have indexed your pages yet. It usually takes 48 hours for data to populate once your Google Search Console is connected. If it has been longer than a week, go to Rank Math > General Settings > Search Console to ensure your account is properly linked.
The keywords aren’t relevant to my products
Sometimes you might rank for a term that doesn’t result in sales. This usually happens if a product description is too vague. Try updating your product titles to be more specific (e.g., change "Blue Shirt" to "Men’s Slim Fit Blue Oxford Shirt").
I see "Not Provided" in the list
Google hides some search data to protect user privacy. This is normal for all website owners and does not mean your tracking is broken. Focus on the keywords that are visible to find patterns.
Summary
Tracking your keywords allows you to see your store through your customers’ eyes. Regularly checking your Analytics tab helps you stay ahead of trends and fix pages that aren’t performing as well as they should.
