Connect your Stripe account for card payments

Stripe is the standard for accepting credit and debit cards on your WooShop store. It handles the security of the transaction, allows customers to use Apple Pay or Google Pay, and ensures your sales revenue is deposited directly into your bank account.

How to set up the connection

Before you start, make sure you have your Stripe login details ready. If you don’t have a Stripe account yet, you can create one during the process.

  1. Open your Payments settings
From your WooShop dashboard, go to WooCommerce in the left-hand menu and select Settings. Click on the Payments tab at the top of the page.

  2. Enable Stripe
Find Stripe in the list of payment methods. Toggle the switch to On and click the Finish set up (or Manage) button next to it.

  3. Link your account
Click the button labeled Connect Stripe. This will redirect you to a secure Stripe login page.

  4. Authorize the connection
Log in with your Stripe email and password. If you have multiple Stripe accounts (called "accounts" or "profiles"), select the one you want to use for this store. Follow the prompts to authorize WooShop to connect to your account.

  5. Confirm and Save
Once authorized, you will be sent back to your WooShop dashboard. Make sure the "Enable Stripe" box is checked and click Save changes at the bottom of the page.

Practical scenarios

  • Selling physical goods: A customer adds a shirt to their cart, enters their Visa details at checkout, and the payment is instantly verified so you can begin shipping.
  • Mobile shopping: A customer browsing on an iPhone sees an "Apple Pay" button on your product page, allowing them to buy instantly without typing in their card number.
  • Digital downloads: A customer pays for an eBook via Stripe, and because the payment is confirmed immediately, WooShop automatically sends them the download link.

Troubleshooting common issues

Payments are staying in "Pending" status
Check if you are still in Test Mode. In your Stripe settings within WooShop, ensure the "Enable Test Mode" box is unchecked if you want to accept real money from customers.

Customers see an error at checkout
Log in to your Stripe Dashboard and check for any notifications. Stripe often requires you to verify your business identity or bank account before they allow you to process live transactions.

Stripe doesn’t appear at checkout
Go back to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and make sure the toggle next to Stripe is purple (On). If it is on but still not showing, ensure your store currency matches one supported by your Stripe account.

Summary

Connecting Stripe is the fastest way to get your store ready for business. Once connected, your checkout will automatically support major credit cards and mobile wallets.
