Adding social media share buttons to products and posts
Adding social share buttons lets your visitors share your products and blog posts directly to their own social feeds. It is an easy way to get more eyes on your store through word-of-mouth, helping you reach new customers without a dedicated ad budget.
How to enable social sharing
Since WooShop is built on Kadence, you can manage these buttons directly from the WordPress Customizer. You don’t need to install extra plugins for basic sharing.
- Log in to your dashboard and go to Appearance > Customize.
- To add buttons to your blog, go to Post Layout > Single Post Layout.
- Scroll down to the Social Share section. Click the "eye" icon to make it visible.
- To add buttons to your shop, go back to the main menu and select WooCommerce > Product Layout.
- Find the Social Share toggle and turn it on.
- Click the Settings (gear icon) next to Social Share to choose which platforms to show, such as Facebook, X (Twitter), Pinterest, or LinkedIn.
- Drag and drop the "Social Share" block within the layout list to move the buttons (for example, above or below the "Add to Cart" button).
- Click Publish to save your changes.
Real-world uses
- Gift Ideas: A customer finds a product they love and shares it on Pinterest to save for later or show friends.
- Recipes and News: If you run a restaurant or a niche shop, a reader can share your latest blog post or recipe directly to a Facebook group.
- Limited Drops: When you launch a new product, social buttons make it easy for your loyal customers to spread the word to their own followers.
Troubleshooting common issues
The buttons are showing, but the wrong image appears on Facebook.
This is usually caused by your SEO settings. If you use a plugin like RankMath or Yoast (included with WooShop), make sure you have set a "Featured Image" for that post or product. Social platforms use this image first.
I enabled the buttons, but they aren’t appearing on the page.
Check the "Element Placement" list in the Customizer. Even if the Social Share toggle is "on," the element must be placed within the active layout area. Ensure it isn’t hidden behind a different layer or set to "hidden" on mobile devices.
The share count is wrong or showing zero.
Most modern share buttons are "privacy-friendly" and do not track individual click counts to keep your site loading fast. If you need specific data on shares, it is best to check your Google Analytics or social media business suite.
Next steps
Once your share buttons are live, consider testing them on your mobile phone to ensure they are easy to tap. You might also want to look into:
- Setting up your Social Profiles: Add links to your own Instagram or Facebook pages in the header or footer.
- Creating a Custom Footer: Make sure your contact info and social links are easy to find at the bottom of every page.
